The Clear Mirror of Cause and Effect

"The Clear Mirror of Cause and Effect" was composed by the 7th throne holder of Sakya Drogon Chogyal Phagpa at the request of Crown Prince Jingmin, son of Emperor Kublai Khan of the Yuan Dynasty, in the year 1258. This text serves as an introduction to the law of karma, explaining how actions have consequences that can affect us in this life and future lives.

Drogon Chogyal Phagpa

Drogon Chogyal Phagpa (1235 - 1280) was one of the five founding patriarchs of the Sakya tradition, a great scholar and siddha, who spread the Buddha's teachings in Mongolia, China, and Tibet. He authored a multitude of root texts, commentaries on sutra and tantra, letters responding to questions, advices for countless beings, and praises and supplication prayers. Drogon Chogyal Phagpa was the imperial preceptor of the Yuan Dynasty and the guru of the Emperor, Kublai Khan, who was also the founder of the dynasty and the ruler of the Mongol Empire. He also served as the first vice-regent of Tibet.
